Faculty and StaffDirector: Steven Shultz, Baright Professor of Real Estate and Land Use Economics (UNORealEstate@mail.unomaha.edu) Teaching PhD (University of Arizona) Professor Shultz teaches principles of real estate, and both residential and income property appraisal. Research Professor Shultz' research interests focus on mass appraisal methodologies that combine GIS-based data with statistical modeling to quantify the determinants of property sales. This approach improves the accuracy of site-specific appraisals and tax assessments and demonstrates the economic values of various environmental amenities. He is interested in promoting residential and commercial real estate developments that are compatible with sustainable and efficient patterns of urban growth. Some of his work his been published in the Journal of Property Tax Assessment and administration, Land Economics, and Journal of Real Estate and Finance Economics. Professor Shultz was previously an Associate Professor at North Dakota State University, and a natural resource economist at the Center for Research and Training in tropical agriculture in Costa Rica. Associate Director: Professor Roger Sindt, Professor of Real Estate and Land Use Economics Department of Economics (rsindt@mail.unomaha.edu) Teaching PhD (Texas A&M University) Professor Sindt teaches Real Estate Principles, Real Estate Concepts and Processes, Residential Real Estate Finance, Commercial Real Estate Finance, Real Estate Investment Analysis, Internship, Special Problems in Real Estate and Land Use Economics, and Principles of Economics (Micro). His teaching interests center on the undergraduate real estate and land use economics (RELU) program focusing on residential and commercial finance and commercial property investment analysis. Research Professor Sindt's research interests include Real Estate Finance, Real Estate Investments, Real Estate Valuation, and Housing Economics. This research has been published in Appraisal Journal, Real Estate Review, Academy of Finance Proceedings, Midwest Review of Finance and Insurance, Proceedings of the Nebraska Economics and Business Association, Journal of Housing and Society, Real Estate Business, Bureau of Business Research Review, Tierra Grande, Valuation Perspectives, Real Estate Perspectives, Proceedings of the Real Estate Educator's Association, and Regional Business Review. Dr. Sindt serves the profession by reviewing work for the Nebraska Economics and Business Association and the Journal of Academy of Finance and Insurance (a subgroup of the Midwest Business Administration Association). Service Dr. Sindt is a member of the American Real Estate Society, Nebraska Business and Economic Association, and Midwest Business Administration Association. His has served the industry and profession as immediate Past President, Nebraska Economics and Business Association. Professor Sindt is presently Faculty Advisor, Rho Epsilon Club and past Vice President, National Rho Epsilon Club. He served one full and one partial term on the UNO Faculty Senate, as faculty liaison for RELU scholarship acquisition and administration, and as RELU internship coordinator. Before joining the professoriate, Professor Sindt worked as a Licensed Real Estate salesperson and broker in Texas, had some residential construction experience, and was an owner and manager of residential rental properties. Research Associate: Nick Schmitz (nschmitz@mail.unomaha.edu) Background Nick recieved a bachelors degree from North Dakota State University in Natural Resources Management-Physical Science with minors in Soil Science and Geology. He has worked as a Research Assistant in Ag Economics at NDSU and as a Geologist in Coal Exploration at the Falkirk Mine. His research interests involve using Geographic Infromation Systems in modeling parcel specific property values, specifically to quantify differentiated factors of production in an agricultural setting as they relate to land values and determinants of real property value in urban areas.
